Have you ever stopped and stared at a tree? Those big and majestic trees, with huge crowns and massive trunks? If you get close to them, you can smell their leaves and touch its coarse bark. You can see rows of busy ants moving up and down the tree to gather their nourishment. By breathing deeply, you can feed your mind with their energy.
But what’s the secret behind such a great piece of nature? How can they stand up so firmly?
Roots. It’s all about roots. They are there, but hard to see as they are silently hidden underneath the earth; where they spread for several metres without us being aware of it. Hence, they represent the foundation and the main support for such big creatures that would not be able to survive and stay there without their precious roots.
Roots represent the unseen, the answer to such exterior beauty. Their purpose is to support the tree and to nourish it, to link it to the earth and to enable it to grow even bigger, – but most important of all they are the starting point of such majestic creatures. They are the starting point of everybody of us: the deeper they are, the more we feel their presence. Our roots are our reference point, our origin, our home, our source of fuel and energy.
Roots is the main subject of U/KNIT’s first yarn collection, and a symbol of our journey that starts at our origin and leads us to built up our future.
WASABI | 75% Cotton, 15% Silk, 10% Cashmere
Our Wasabi yarn combines three of the most luxurious fibres, melted together to create a very soft and fine yarn. Cotton is comfortable, it absorbs colour profoundly and it fixes it firmly, in so sharing such great features with the best cotton in the world. The silk that it contains is Mulberry silk, which is the finest kind of yarn that you can find in the world as it is known for its shine and softness. Furthermore, the silk melts with the cotton in a twist thread but the best part is the addition of 10% cashmere, which is a thin, resistant and light yarn that adds that luxury touch you need to an everyday and timeless item.
GINSENG | 100% Cotton (gazed and mercerised)
Our Ginseng yarn is a long precious fibres cotton. After it is combed and gazed, it is then mercerised and hence transformed into a luxurious and fine fibre, similar to silk. In fact, the Ginseng cotton is able to absorb colours deeply and firmly turning into a brilliant and soft yarn. Brightness and softness become even more visible because of the gazed process which the Ginseng is undertaking as it eliminates foreign bodies and imperfections. Later on, the mercerised process will increase both the brightness and softness of the fibres. In general, ginseng is a regular thin yarn whose light satiated effect has a very luxurious impression and lightens up the senses.
GINGER | 75% Mohair (super kid), 25% Silk
Our Ginger is a luxury yarn which is made out of the best fibres of mohair oat and Mulberry silk. Apparently, it seems slightly combed and light like clouds and plumes. Its soft consistency provides your creations with a fine, sophisticated twist.
Right for the outset, the mohair fibre has been used in combination with the finest silk coming from the Orient. Later on, thanks to King Charles I of Spain, silk came to Europe, and suddenly conquered the European society with its luxurious and sophisticated features.

MANIOCA | 100% Wool
Our Manioca is a 100% merino wool thread made from Spanish sheep, which was the first source and hence the origin of all merino wools in the world. Furthermore, the Merino wool preserves the original key features of Spanish wool, such as volume, quality, lightness and resistance. Spanish sheep wool is made of a very common fibre that is famous for being the origin of one of the best quality wool that exists. Manioca is a fine thread and soft to touch that due to the super wash treatment is being eliminated from any flakes of wool, in so avoiding to be felted, and being transformed into a silky and soft thread.
TOPINAMBUR | 100% Virgin Wool
